Through the ballot measure process, Arkansas citizens have the right to petition to place good policy ideas on the ballot for direct voter approval. Through the referendum process, we also get to strike down bad laws.
Arkansas Volunteer Canvasser Guide
This guide is a joint undertaking of the Arkansas Civic Action Network (ArkCAN) and the Public Policy Center at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture (PPC). Together, we are committed to protecting the integrity of Arkansas’s citizen-led initiative and referendum process.
Canvasser Affidavit
As part of Arkansas’s citizen-led initiative and referendum process, state law requires every canvasser to file a sworn affidavit with the Arkansas Secretary of State. This affidavit certifies that the canvasser has complied with the Arkansas Constitution and all applicable state laws governing canvassing, including those related to perjury, forgery, and fraudulent practices, during the current election cycle.

The signature publication of the League of Women Voters of Arkansas, Government in Arkansas explains the structure and functions of Arkansas government. Among its 10 chapters are overviews of Arkansas’ constitution, branches of government, institutions of political influence, elections, and noteworthy issues. A brief comparative analysis of Arkansas and other states concludes each chapter. Background information on the state’s political history and women’s suffrage movement is also provided.
